#FamilyFriday | April Showers

April showers bring May flowers... along with a whole lot of grumpiness. Seriously, I don't know what it is about the rain that just ruins a day. I mean, I get it. Your hair looks like Monica Geller in Barbados, you can't wear that reeeeeeally cute outfit, business slows down, you can't go to the park, and you're not able to go on that 5 mile jog you planned (like that was really going to happen).

A while ago I heard a quote that made me change my perspective on rainy days. I'm not sure on the exact quote, so I sincerely apologize if I butcher it, but it went something like this:

The best time to pray for blessings is when it’s raining. It means God is in a good mood and eager to give.

Wait, what? He isn't trying to ruin my day!?! But really, if you think about it, when is a better time? God has opened up the doors of Heaven and allowed water to come from the sky and nourish the ground!

The Bible says that God will withhold rain as a punishment or as a sign of His disapproval. Why would that be a big deal? Because without rain there would be nothing to drink, nothing to bathe in, no water for your livestock, and the crops would die. Literally, your whole life depends on this one thing: Rain.

Whoa! Hold up a second. We live in the 21st century. We can just go to the supermarket for food. We have town water or a well to bring us water to our house. Livestock? We just have a cat! And the work I do brings in the income to support my family. Our lives can continue on just like normal without rain... or so we think. In reality, we could only survive for a short time before prices skyrocket and eventually truckloads of emergency aid would have to be sent in. Our lives are still dependent on God sending the rain, it may just not be as obvious as it used to be. So the next time it rains, rejoice! Get some cornrows and go dance in the street! Puddle-jump up in those blessings! God's favor is shining (or dropping) all around you!
