Happy birthday, Jonathan!

Happy birthday, Jonathan!

This time of year, when I'm scrambling to figure out what to get you for your birthday present (you know gifts aren't one of my strongest love languages). This always reminds me of the first year we were together. We started dating January 20th, which means, besides our first month anniversary celebration, I also had your birthday AND valentines day all within the first four weeks of dating. I had absolutely no idea what to get you, and having all three of these events in less than two weeks apart set me out to fail miserably.

So I asked for help from the best man at our wedding. He graciously told me what I already knew you liked American Eagle, baking, and theology. To this day, I haven't been able to buy you a piece of clothing that you like. I didn't know anything about baking, except how to follow a recipe. This left me with theology. Now this, this I could do.

One of the things that made me fall in love with you was your desire to seek out the truth, no matter what you might find. One of our first deep conversations just as co-workers was our belief on demons. How did I not scare you away!?! You let me borrowed CS Lewis' book "The Screwtape Letters," which basically rocked my world. So I got you two series of his letters. I'm pretty sure they've done nothing, but collect dust on our bookshelf, but I love remembering these early days of our young relationship.

I'm so glad you weren't scared away by my random theological questions. I love that you enjoy living amidst the questions and seeking out the truth, and that you aren't afraid of what the answers to those questions may be. I'm so excited that our children have you as their father and will see you constantly wrestling with our Heavenly Father. Thank you for pursuing our dreams and chasing after them with everything you've got. Somehow you still find time and energy to run around with pillows on your head as you chase our daughter. Or always being willing to put on some music and dance with her when she puts out her tiny hand. Or your willingness to go to the potty with her, after she asks only for you for the 8th time in the last 15 minutes, this alone blows my mind. Yet, you still make time to take care of me every day!

Whew. I may have gotten a little distracted :) I love you and I hope you have the best birthday!
